The Solomon Islands has many unique and specialised traditional fishing techniques that have been developed and refined over centuries. In the Marovo Lagoon, skilled teams of fishermen would wield poles and lines adorned with pearl shell, or turtle shell lures to capture tuna in the open sea.
Meanwhile Sukiki Village utilised fishing gear made of spider webs and fishing lines of vines with termites attached to the end. Throughout the Solomon Islands, fishermen have linked moon phases to the spawning patterns of three species of grouper, further guiding their fishing.
