Introduction

The species name aeneus means “coppery” referring to its striking copper-green colouration.


What does Anoplognathus aeneus look like?

Identification

Deep, metallic green. Underside deep, metallic rose to rose-green; thorax and abdomen with coarse, long, white hair, except on midline. Legs dark brown to deep rpse; mid and hind legs with long, erect, white hair.

    Clypeus: Wide; strongly contracted before apex; narrower front margin abruptly recurved; apex square.

  • Foretibia

    Foretibia: Three distinct tibial teeth.

  • Metaventral process

    Metaventral process: Long; curved; apex overhanging forecoxae.

  • Pygidium

    Pygidium: Green; irregularly punctured surface texture; with sparse, short, flat, white hair and long erect, yellow hairs.

Anoplognathus aeneus is distinctively large. It is a metallic green, without brown borders on its elytra. The pronotum and elytra are coarse with irregular punctures, not smooth. The clypeus and pygidium do not bear any setae.
