Back by popular demand, join us for an interactive investigation of environmental and climate science this school holidays!
Come behind the scenes to meet some of the Australian Museum’s scientists working on climate solutions and the important work they do to help protect our planet. Curator for Climate Change at the Museum’s Climate Solutions Centre, Dr Jenny Newell, and Project Officer, Madison Kuras, will guide you through the projects they are working on. Then, get hands-on with model figures and materials to bring your vision for a sustainable future to life.
Plus, meet Gundungurra traditional owner and Community Engagement Officer, Kazan Brown, and learn how collecting and analysing scats could hold the key to protecting koalas.
This full day experience will give budding scientists positive solutions and practical steps to help ensure a brighter future for our planet.
The Scientist for a Day program is a full day social and educational workshop for young minds aged 9-12 years, designed to show kids what it’s like to work in different areas of science.

Dr Jenny Newell
Dr Jenny Newell is Curator for Climate Change at the Australian Museum’s Climate Solutions Centre. Jenny works on the cultural dimensions of climate change, focusing on communities in Australia and the Pacific. With a background in environmental history, Jenny has worked with Pacific communities and collections at the British Museum, National Museum of Australia, the American Museum of Natural History (New York) and the Australian Museum to amplify voices on climate change for broad audiences.
Madison Kuras
Madison Kuras is the Project Officer for the Australian Museum’s Climate Solutions Centre, where she works to increase public engagement in climate solutions through museum exhibitions, programming, and multimedia projects. From the American Museum of Natural History and Climate Museum in New York City, all the way to the South Georgia Museum off the Antarctic coast, Madison has worked on exhibitions and programmes dedicated to bringing climate information to worldwide audiences. At Australian Museum, Madison is exploring how museums can serve as sites for change and looks to use community engagement to find affirming climate solutions.
Kazan Brown
Kazan Brown is a Gundungurra traditional owner with connection to the Burragorang and Warragamba Valleys. As the first resident in the new Australian Museum initiative, Mob @ the Museum, Kazan is a Community Engagement Officer collecting scats and sharing cultural knowledge to help conserve and care for koalas.
