School holiday activities at the Australian Museum

Are you looking for fun things to do with the kids in Sydney during the school holidays? The Australian Museum (AM) offers a range of educational activities to keep your kids entertained.

The Dinosaur Festival is back from Tuesday 8 October to Saturday 12 October, with an exciting new line-up of free and paid activities suited for all ages. Step back to the age of dinosaurs and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of various activities, workshops and live shows. Meet singing palaeontologist Professor Flint in fun, fact-filled dino adventure shows. See jaw-dropping live flying demonstrations at the Descendants of Dinosaurs Bird Show. Create your own miniature prehistoric world with dress ups and toy dinosaurs. Plus, don’t miss daily pop-up activities across the Museum, including the roving Erth puppets and a special exhibit from 14 year old Noah’s personal collection of model dinosaurs!

The AM is open every day of the school holidays, with free general entry! Only a short walk from Museum and St James train stations, the AM is easy to get to, and there is paid parking nearby for a visit whether it's raining or a sunny day out.

Sydney Science Trail 2022

T.rex Autopsy

Join us for T.rex Autopsy where we peel back the skin and dive deep inside one of the Earth's most mysterious creatures. Combining biology with palaeontology, we examine how these massive 66-million-year-old lizard monsters may have lived...and how this one died.

Dino Tales with Noah and Mark

Meet 14 year old dinosaur enthusiast Noah and Mark Radburn from Love on the Spectrum as they share their passion for dinosaurs! Awe over Noah’s impressive model collection as he shares incredible facts like never before. From our Talking Point Tables, get your budding questions ready as Mark offers fascinating insights on dinosaur artifacts. Don’t miss this chance to learn from two passionate dino enthusiasts!

Erth puppet show at Dinosaur Festival

Erth Dinosaur Puppets

Roam the Museum alongside the Erth puppets that bring the past to life and provide a tangible connection to the extraordinary creatures that once walked the Earth. Driven by a special interest in natural history, indigenous folklore, sociology and urban mythology, keep an eye out for the striking titanosaur, baby muttaburrasaurus or astrolovenator!

Take a journey through the Birds of Australia gallery and be immersed in a chorus of 53 of our most threatened bird species. Discover the importance of protecting our feathered friends while enjoying an exciting auditory adventure.

Do you have exquisite T.rex vision? Become a detective and embark on an exciting hunt for prehistoric figures hidden throughout the Museum. Have fun exploring the Museum as you search for the prehistoric figures amongst other treasures. Good luck and see if you can find them all!
